Things to know

Accessible via a four-hour flight from Johannesburg, Mauritius operates on a time zone 4 hours ahead of GMT and 2 hours ahead of South African time. Visitors from South Africa don’t require a visa, but a valid passport is a must.

Bask in the warm summer climate from November to April, with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 33°C. Enjoy the milder months from May to October, when the mercury sits comfortably between 17°C and 23°C. Casual beachwear and smart/casual attire for evenings are recommended, along with sunscreen, sunglasses, and a light jacket for cooler evenings.

Electricity operates on 220/240 volts with a square 3 flat pin plugs (British plug) standard. However, all hotels also accommodate South African 2-pin plugs. 

The local currency is the Mauritian Rupee, with credit cards widely accepted and ATMs conveniently available.
